Description
Lafayette Park, or Lafayette Square, is a seven acre public park located in Washington D.C. Lafayette Park is directly across from the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue. Originally part of the White House grounds, Pennsylvania Avenue bisected what was referred to as “President’s Park” in 1804, to be named Lafayette Square in 1824 in honor of General Lafayette of France. Lafayette Park became a National Historic Landmark District in 1970.
