Subject

Italian Americans, Industrial Factories (Rhode Island)

Description

This photograph was taken c. 1936, during the early years of development, as is apparent by the overhead leather pulley-belts that were used to work the machinery. Later, when motors became more available, the equipment was modernized and more fully mechanized. Here, skilled workers perform many of the operations for the diverse lines of jewelry and other products. Romco companies became the parent company for Ronci Manufacturing. It employed more than 550 people throughout Rhode Island and the United States. Ronci Manufacturing was an employment center that many early [settlers] and their families worked at.
