Originally constructed during the rule of Emperor Constantine, The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was built as one of a number of memorial structures intended to, “enshrine places or objects associated with Gospel episodes or other hallowed events.” The Holy Sepulchre is built around the enclosed tomb of Christ. This photograph shows a detail of the church that was added in the centuries following the original construction in 326.
