Dizengoff Street, named for Meir Dizengoff, the first mayor of Tel Aviv, is the home for designer shops and leisure in Tel Aviv. Since the 1970s the street has seen some decline, but continues to be a destination for those seeking designer fashions and coffee shops. The streets iconic status inspired a new slang term for those who frequent the street, “I‘hizdangef,” literally meaning to “Dizengoff oneself.”
