The Restricted Section

The Restricted Section by Special Collections intern Rey Plante is now open on the third floor! This exhibit features books by Rhode Island authors that have been challenged or banned across the United States, as well as titles that have faced censorship in Rhode Island schools. It also highlights the Rhode Island Freedom to Read Act, signed into law in August 2025, which protects public and school libraries from censorship and book bans, and provides legal safeguards for librarians and library staff.
