Title
Acorn Street: Man with Pushcart
Subject
Italian Americans
Description
Pushcarts were a way of Italian immigrants to sell their wares in the neighborhood. Much akin to the marketplaces of their motherland, Italians in Providence would bring goods to their neighborhood and "push carts" around offering exchanges for what they had brought. This photo was taken in 1903 and shows a man on Acorn Street in the Federal Hill area of Providence, RI, doing just that.
