Description
The oldest cathedral in the Americas is Catedral Santa Maria la Menor located in Santo Domino, the capital of the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic was the first island in the Americas to be taken over by the Spanish after Christopher Columbus’ exploration in 1492, and thus the first seat of European rule in the New World. The cathedral is adjacent to Columbus Park, where the statue depicting the explorer likeness stands.
