Description
The Washington Monument, the most prominent fixture in the D.C. skyline, was completed in 1884 in honor of the first American president, George Washington. The monument stands over 555 ft tall and offers views over thirty miles. A design competition was held in 1836, and Robert Mills proposed the Egyptian obelisk-shaped monument that won. The monument stands on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
