Description
The George Washington Equestrian Statue stands at the center of Washington Circle. The bronze statue depicts George Washington on horseback fighting the 1776 Battle of Princeton. Clark Mills sculpted the Washington Circle statue, as well as another 1853 depiction of Andrew Jackson that stands in Lafayette Park. The statue was dedicated in 1860, on the eve of the Civil War. Washington Circle adjoins George Washington University campus and is considered a campus landmark.
