Title

Faneuil Hall

Description

The Samuel Adams Statue and Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts. The historic building was originally a market built in 1742 by Peter Faneuil. Town hall meetings were held at Faneuil Hall between 1764 and 1774.  It was during the town hall meetings that protesters, among them Samuel Adams, rallied against the taxes imposed by the British government. The site has been host to many historic figures including George Washington, Frederick Douglas, and Susan B. Anthony.

During the mid 1900s, the historic building fell into disrepair and was set to be demolished. The building was saved by residents who supported its preservation and renovation in the early 1970s. The building still serves as a marketplace today. Faneuil Hall, along with neighboring Quincy Market built in 1826, serves as a popular tourist destination.
