Identifying Remarks
Minature of St. Mark (?) writing Gospel. Angel holding scroll, dictating. Rare use of silve on scroll. Interest in Linear Perspective. Italian velvet wild flowers quite evident. Peacock walking on grassy lawn an indication of the Realism Movement just starting that time in France. Portrait of St. Mathew also realistic. Border slightly blurred. Angel's face of white lead, pealed slightly, but rest of miniature in unusually fine condition and brilliant. Strawberries are the emblem of the Benedictine order on reverse side of sheet. Leaf obtained in England in 1922.
